After Mariko regains her ability to use her Vectors, she and Lucy have one final fight, ending in Lucy almost dying. Kurama then takes Mariko in his arms and dies with her when the bomb inside her is detonated. With a final goodbye kiss between Kouta and Lucy, she leaves and is last seen when she is shot at by a squad of soldiers, but she is not seen dead, just one of her horns is seen landing on the ground.
