This week we are very excited to spotlight one of our PIC/ELC Ambassador of caring $10,000 winners: Mothers 2 Mothers. In parts of Africa, up to 75% of the babies born stand to lose their mothers, who are HIV+, to AIDS-related illnesses. Without intervention, more than a quarter of these children will inherit the virus themselves. An entire generation is at stake. The Mothers 2 Motherâs programs are helping to stop this alarming trend by providing an effective model of care for pregnant women and new mothers living with HIV by teaching them how they can live healthy âPositiveâ lives, and with a 98% success rate, not transmit the HIV virus to their unborn child. Photojournalist Lynn Peterson had the opportunity to share some intimate time with 8 of these Women, and here, in their own words, are their inspirational stories.
