There is too much at play in this market and too much emotion from people who have suffered in the market drops in 2007-08 for basic technical analysis to work the same way. Also, the bear market of 2007-08 has taught everyone that buy-and-hold strategies do not work, forcing many to turn to other market strategies such as technical analysis. Too many people now understand and play the basics of technical analysis, making basic technical patterns much harder to play because theres only so many patterns to go around.
