Cutting expenses is expected when a recession is at hand, but some West Hartford families are being forced to choose between food and meeting their monthly expenses. The West Hartford food pantry is hoping consistent donations will prevent local families from facing that decision.
West Hartford social workers are seeing more working families in need of emergency food. The last six months of data averages 90 families each month coming to the food pantry for assistance. The highest month so far being June.
The West Hartford Food Pantry is coordinated by the town and run out of Town Hall, but the operation subsists on donations from residents and volunteers to stock and count the food. West Hartford volunteer coordinator, Linda Hanson, says donations have not diminished, but the demand is getting higher. Distributed by Tubemogul.
