According to the 2000 census, nearly 10,000 West Hartford residents are foreign born, and English is not the primary language of nearly 13,000.
Bishops Corner Library is attempting to help bridge the gap in conversational English by offering weekly sessions to practice the language and learn about neighbors. The conversational English course is fashioned after similar courses offered at other West Hartford Library branches. This class, on Tuesdays at 1pm, offers another day and time for residents wanting to practice English in a non judgmental environment.
The course has had a large response from those in need of practice as well as residents wanting to volunteer to lead the class. Bishop's Corner Library is considering another course to begin this fall. Distributed by Tubemogul.
