The man, a South Korean national believed to be in his 50s, visited the municipal government on Thursday to apply for child allowances for children he has adopted, in addition to an allowance for his real child, according to the officials.ãÂÂThe man claimed that he had adopted children living at monasteries and orphanages in Thailand, the home country of his wife, and presented a lengthy adoption certificate which he said was issued by the Thai government.ãÂÂThe certificate showed the names and the places and dates of births of numerous children. When asked whom he adopted, the man responded that he had adopted all the 554 boys and girls listed in the certificate. If his application were accepted, he would receive a total of 86.58 million yen annually in child allowances for the 554 children and his real child.
