In 2007 at Florida State University I met Matthew Mahler. He was frighteningly intelligent, loved Godard and aspired to make it as a filmmaker. He left FSU after his first year, his sights set on New Jersey. I acquired the DVD of his film Far From the Front from a mutual friend; the original copy now remains somewhere deep in the archives of FSU's Strozier Library Special Collections Department. Matt has now dropped off the map--he does not exist on the Internet. The film--well, you'll just have to watch it.
