This documentary film is about the tour of duty of one Vietnam Veteran from his arrival in country to his departure one year later. The story shows how one soldier did his duty and then how he dealt with the death and destruction he saw all around him.
This film is a first-person account and incorporates still photographs and super 8 mm film footage taken April 1969 to April 1970. The film and photos are used to illustrate the issues and difficulties faced by an infantry second lieutenant who had recently been commissioned through ROTC at a small mid-western university.
Although this young officer was trained and ready for war, the suffering of the children broke his heart and drove him to attempt to comfort and clothe all he could. In the end, he had to leave those children and return home where he became a teacher dedicated to helping young people train for their futures.
