There was a time when Americans understood that lying and cheating were wrong and destructive of our social fabric. But today, Americans have been completely desensitized to this conduct, and we do not even bat an eye when a politician is found to have been corrupt or a public figure cheats on his or her spouse and children. But we should be outraged. If our society does not enforce the expectation and obligation that people must fulfill their moral responsibilities to their families and to those who are owed faithfulness and trust, then we are instead nurturing a culture of faithlessness.
