SOUTHERN PHILIPPINES (Sept. 6, 2009) U.S. Navy surface vessels search for survivors from a sunken super ferry in the waters off of Zamboanga del Norte. This video shows the view from a civilian helicopter as it flies over a life raft from the ferry as a U.S. Navy RHIB approaches. Then the RHIB approaches a Philippine military vessel. The Philippine military vessel appears to have survivors on the stern. There is video of another Philippine Super Ferry and further rescue efforts as well. The orange ship shown in the video is a U.S. Navy Maritime Support Vessel and it is trailed by U.S. Navy Mark V Special Operations Craft. At the request of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, JSOTF-P dispatched several boats and a civilian helicopter to assist in the search and rescue effort. The service members, from Naval Special Boat Team 12, joined the Philippine Navy, Philippine Coast Guard and civilian rescue personnel to search for survivors and provide medical care to the injured.
