More at http://umc.org/videos/ Young and vibrant and female, The Rev. Kimberly Greway doesn't fit the mold of most prison chaplains. The United Methodist is Director of Chaplain Care for 3,000 inmates at the Allegheny County Jail in PA. Greway says her calling is to help those trying to turn their lives around. She champions the HOPE program, a group in which prisoners can find support and accountability. The HOPE program has been shown to reduce the recidivism rate among participating inmates from 65 to 18 percent. Participants form pen pal relationships and fund scholarships for school children in Africa. Greway says these relationships give the prisoners a sense of pride that they have done something good even while incarcerated.
