AJPW - Rob Van Dam vs. Dan Kroffat (6-9-95)Before Van Dam signed with Paul Heyman's ECW in 1996, he had a short run in WCW, before touring with All-Japan Pro Wrestling. This is before 4:20, before the 5-Star Frog Splash, before the trippy singlets, and before the fame, yet some call this match his best of his career.
Overview:
Kroffat works his usual heel angle well, and RVD does a terrific job, in a match that was VERY well put together, with very few mistakes. Early, Kroffat catches Van Dam's throat in a rough chop, nearly drops him in mid-crucifix/sunset flip, and obviously anticipates some of the moves. The only real mistake V.D. makes is when they're on the outside, and V.D. forgets Kroffat likes to reverse his suplex, and nearly breaks his own neck selling the wrong direction. Kroffat begins no-selling some hand strikes from exhaustion, but RVD picks up the slack, selling a DDT phenomenally, and hitting D.K. with some kicks you can't pretend didn't hurt.
