St Jo Mo National Historic District Tour HomeA Landmark property at the “Gateway” to the Museum Hill National Historic District. The mansion is a “One of a Kind”
brick Italianate Victorian. Built in the 1880’s by a prominent grocer George Kennard, the house was constructed on a hill and claims the most magnificent view of St. Joseph. In 1910, Ernest Chase, founder of the Chase Candy Co. and the Cherry Mash, purchased it. This 5000 sq. ft. property is full of original woodwork, elegant dining rooms, pristine parlors, period antique furniture, and luxurious guestrooms. A six-year restoration effort resulted from a 1995 fire that almost destroyed this architectural gem. Today, it is a beautiful First Class Inn, home tour attraction, event and meeting facility. “Lodging elegance from the past when the Wild West was fast!”
