We are on Day 3 of the Viscape video blog tour. We stayed in Cabarete, the kite surfing capital of the Caribbean. We share our plan for the day. We love Cabarete. It was awesome! Beautiful beach, great town! Loved it!

We arrived to Monte Christi, which is right next door to Haiti on the far northwest coast of the Dominican Republic. We were excited about climbing the stairway to to heaven to catch the heavenly views, but unfortunately, the stairway was broken. :( Monte Christi was a very poor area, a shanty town. The closer you get to Haiti, the poorer it it. Maybe because a lot of Haitians cross the border illegally. The so-called "national park" didn't seem like much of a park and there were no signs. It was very hard to get around. It was at least a 6 hour drive round trip from Puerto Plata. Watch the video to learn more about our experience and what we saw.

We wrapped up our day by driving down the main boardwalk in Puerto Plata and discovered a really cool fort as the sun was setting. It was just next to the statue of Luperon, the liberator of the Dominican people from Haiti's occupation back in the 1800's.

We drove 6 hours round trip to get to Monte Christi which promised fantastical views. The only issue was the stairway to heaven was broken, so we only got the partial view of a rock next to a cliff and not the up-high view.

This video kicks off a 10-day Viscape video blog tour of the Dominican Republic. Jarabacoa is attracts ecotourists from around the world. It is close to Pico Duarte, the highest peek in the Caribbean. Its a temperate climate, 70-degrees year round and a very nice place to visit.
