In Thailand, the Buddhist New Year begins with SONGRAN on April, 13th. It involves most of all plenty of water. Originally SONGRAN offered the opportunity to pay repect to eachother, by using a few drops of water for blessing the elderly people and the monks. Nowadays the SONGRAN Festival, especially in Pattaya, has lost some of its religious significance and has become a more profane, but nevertheless colourful, passionate and often amusing waterbattle, celebrated in every corner of the city.
