James 1:1 - Could you imagine being Jesus' brother? How'd you like to live in that shadow?
In our introduction to the book of James, we learn a little about it's author and what was going on when it was written. Rather than being a deep, doctrinal book, James serves as a primer for living life. In essence, James says: "Don't put off your life of faith until times get better. Right now, in the midst of your suffering, is the very time to be putting your servanthood toward Christ into practice." From just the first verse, we could see James message saying, "Your trial is not the time to rejoice less. Your sickness is not the time to pray less. Your loss is not the time to love others less. Rather, now is the very time to practice the joy, peace and love that we know theoretically to be the Christian life."
