Sustainable development is defined as “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” (Brundtland Commission, 1987). How do we protect the environment of Maui, the Hawaiian Islands and the planet, while dealing with inevitable growth and development? Panelists will open the discussion on how we can create far-reaching change through “green” construction, alternative energy, conservation, water quality, recycling, food production and more.
