Matisse- emin's pouched rat, fishing for peas. This is one of the enrichment activities we would do with him.. he doesn't like getting his feet wet, though, it's cold!
The emin's rat is related to the gambian pouched rat. They're slightly smaller and sleeker in appearance. They have a longer snout, a clear line of demarcation from their whiteish belly and brown upper body, and their fur is slick looking. The gambian has a stocky build, is uniform grey colored, has a shorter snout, and a "rougher" looking coat.
