Portmeirion is the creation of Sir Clough Williams-Ellis who opened it in 1926. But what put this Mediterranean styled village on the map was the filming of the enigmatic television series The Prisoner starring Patrick McGoohan on location at Portmeirion in 1966-67. If you’re a fan of the series and haven’t visited you should go. It's an incredible place and was as much a part of the fictional story as the characters peopling it on screen.
