Kazuo Shiraga was one of the first Japanese painters amidst a group referred to as the Gutai Group, a group of Japanese artists who created a movement overseas equivalent to Abstract Expressionism. His artwork was about leaving evidence of the actions that took place, and he often painted using just his hands and feet in violent, passionate, and very expressive movements.
