The Arts Council are in the process of announcing funding decisions for the next three years. There are winners – hooray ! There are a lot of companies who are being recommended for a partial cut – on various grounds. And then there is, what I think is, the biggest total cut – London Bubble. ACE are proposing withdrawing their funding at the end of this financial year which will most likely mean the winding up of the company. The London Bubble have until the 15 January to lodge an objection.
At a time when ACE and the Government are talking up the importance of access and participation, it seems perverse to cut a company that majors in this area, that has developed work that explores the margin between theatre and community and who are trying to broaden practice of theatre making. They are now mounting a campaign to fight this recommendation.
