MAKATI CITY, Philippines--The lion dance is performed as part of the Chinese New Year festivities. According to Chinese tradition, it brings good luck and wards off evil. The lions usually reach for a lettuce -- which contains a red envelope filled with money -- hanging on the ceiling. It's supposed to bring good luck to the giver if the lion takes the money.
