In late 2008 around fifty thousand employees of the newly merged Delta and Northwest Airlines will vote on union representation.
Without union representation, employees will be "at will" and effectively without any rights or options to sustain their professional careers.
"At Will" Employment as Defined by Delta Airlines Management
"Just as all personnel may resign their employment with Delta at any time and for any reason they choose, Delta may terminate the employment relationship at any time if Delta concludes that such termination is appropriate."
Lack of union representation could also result in loss of Pension, Seniority, Representation and Greivance procedures.
