On April 19, 2009 the Mississippi Kid Festival was held in honor of Ean Evans, bass player for the world's greatest southern rock band, Lynyrd Skynyrd. The mayor of Columbus read a proclamation from the City Council declaring the day "Ean 'Mississipi Kid' Evans Day" in the city. The Attorney General of Mississippi read a proclamation declaring the day "Ean Evans Day" in the state. Ean is battling cancer but was able to come out on stage and play with his band, all of whom came out to support their stricken bandmate. It was an unforgetable day.
