The national economy is in a different place than a year ago. Belts are tightening and spending is being reevaluated. This is true of families as well as governments.
The city of West Hartford is no exception. The city is expecting more than five million fewer dollars coming into the city. The losses are accruing through diminished state aid as well as lowered interest income.
The budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1, 2009 has been examined and re-examined to find savings in every way. The city council will vote on adoption of the budget Thursday. The budget is expected to be passed with a zero percent increase from last year.
