Ferdowsi1000.com is devoted to the Persian language, Persian literature, and Iranian culture from the days of the Persian epic poet Ferdowsi onward. The site’s name alludes to the fact that a thousand years have passed since Ferdowsi completed his famous verse redaction of Persian Iranian legends, myths, tales, and history called Shâhnâmeh [(The) Book of Kings]. Ferdowsi1000.com got its impetus from a Spring 2009 Persian literature seminar at The University of Texas at Austin called “Ferdowsi’s Shâhnâmeh and the Epic Tradition” and a conference held in conjunction with the seminar called “Ferdowsi Teach-In at Texas.” In the Spring of 2010, a parallel Persian literature seminar on “Rumi and the Sufi Tradition” and a Rumi conference will take place. A Hâfez seminar and conference are in the works for the Spring of 2011. www.ferdowsi1000.com
