Tuesday, June 23, 2009: An estimated 150 cities across America participated in World Olympic Day 2009 - a celebration for youth worldwide to observe the birth of the Modern Olympics games and the Olympic values of Fair-play, Perseverance, Respect, and Sportsmanship. A wide array of Olympic style events took place around the United States featuring former and current Olympic athletes, young people, local citizens of all ages, Olympic hopefuls, city officials, and amateur athletes to name a few. Mayors countrywide proclaimed Tuesday as Olympic Day in their respective locales. The U.S.O.C. (United States Olympic Committee) celebrates Olympic Day annually with events at the U.S. Olympic Training Centers and official training sites, as well as coordinating activities with sport National Governing Bodies and affiliated multi-sport organizations.
