THE WAITING ROOM will go behind the scenes at Highland Hospital, a âÂÂsafety-netâ hospital in Oakland, CA. With complete access to the hospital and its staff, the filmmakers will follow CEO Wright Lassiter as he struggles to run a complex yet vital institution in the face of daunting systemic, economic, and political challenges. It is also the story of the patients most at risk, the doctors who care for them and ultimately an entire community. The project will combine traditional long format documentary with a social media project, developed concurrent with production of the feature documentary. The social media project â THE WAITING ROOM â will address one of the more vexing aspects of the emerging social media revolution: as our cultureâÂÂs social fabric undergoes a profound transformation with the help of new media tools, many under-served Americans are being left behind.
