Millions of Americans know their cholesterol levels, but the numbers themselves don't measure risk for heart attack or stroke. A key indicator that DOES measure risk is the number of particles which carry cholesterol in the bloodstream. Now, there's a tool developed by LipoScience called the NMR LipoProfile, which tells patients how many of these particles they have. Many former football players are at high risk of heart disease, because they are not as active as they once were and are not watching their diets. Several took part at a screening organized by the Living Heart Foundation, founded by former NFL Quarterback Dr. Archie Roberts. As part of their physical, they learned their particle numbers.
