n 2003, John Shen was a graduating senior at John Marshall Fundamental High School in Pasadena when he spoke about his first experience as a Milken Scholar. By 2009, John had graduated from Stanford University and had completed his first year of medical school at the University of California, Irvine. The Milken Scholars Program, founded in 1989 by Mike and Lori Milken, provides outstanding high school graduates with a commitment of four years of college financial assistance, counseling, volunteer opportunities and preparation for graduate studies.
