Today, Visa Europe predict that in spite of the recession Brits will still spend over £175 million on Visa cards on what is now known as âMega Mondayâ â the busiest online shopping day of the year.
Over the course of the day, approximately £122,330 will be spent on Visa cards every minute with more than £100 million spent on debit cards. This equates to almost 2.4 million transactions on 30th November alone. The busiest period for online sales predicted to be around lunchtime with another peak around 7pm.
For the previous two years, the busiest online shopping day has always been the Monday closest to the start of December and this year it falls on 30th November. Part of this trend is that customers will go online to see if they can find a better deal on an item seen in a shop.
