ATLANTIC OCEAN (January 14, 2010) The USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) flight deck houses various flight squadrons in preparation for participating in the disaster relief in Haiti. Members of the engineering department aboard USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) begin the process of creating potable water. The water will be an essential element during the shipâs participation in the disaster relief in Haiti. Carl Vinson and Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 17 have received orders from U.S. Southern Command to render humanitarian assistance to the Caribbean nation of Haiti, following a 7.0 magnitude earthquake Jan. 12.
