In VBS Meets Noam Chomsky, VBS meets, unsurprisingly, Noam Chomsky. One of the most respected, influential and inspiring figures in the world of political activism, as well as a figurehead of linguistic academia, Chomsky met up with VBSs Kate Albright-Hanna at Belfast University in October 2009.
They discuss everything from his team-up with Bad Religion (the musical side of which he could not make head or tail of) to the importance of taking the grievances of the far rights supporters seriously, a group whose dissatisfaction he likens to that of the people of late Weimar Germany. He also covers the importance of the energising effect of the Obama campaign, and the potential dangers of "Obamas Army" and his hope that they will, like the followers of Kennedy during times of troubles, respond to the disappointment on the horizon with activism, not blind loyalty.
