John grew up in Utah, and met Larry (his step father) in 1991. Larry owned a HVAC (heating & air-conditioning) and Appliance Repair company. John worked for him off and on through high school, in the summers mostly. Through 15 hour days, Larry taught him that owning your own business is hard work. John worked in Customer Service selling vending machines, until Larry asked him to come back and work for him. He needed him to get his accounts receivable brought in and set up an inventory management system.ÃÂ Within 3 months John collected $45,000 in past due accounts and had the inventory management system in place and running. At this same time, Terri was Larry Office Manager. She was in charge of all of the invoicing and billing, book-keeping, advertising, and many other day to day responsibilities involved in running a business.n January of 2002, John fell off a step ladder while helping a family member paint. He shattered his right elbow and had to have it replaced with a stainless steel one. The surgery was a success, but left nerve damage, and his right hand was paralyzed for four months.ÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂ He was not able to work or even find work because of his injury. Had we owned our own business at that time, he could have still been able to work and bring in income to take care of his family. This once again reinforced the desire to be self-employed.
