Surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) is the guideline-recommended therapy of choice for patients with severe aortic valve stenosis. In clinical routine, however, roughly one-third of elderly patients with severe aortic stenosis are denied surgery due to co-morbidities and resulting high surgical risk.
