When I first started leading teams, I was under the impression that the strongest teams were the ones that were the most emotionally connected. I soon came to the realization that while this can lead to a very closely knit team, it not only takes far too much time and effort to create, it can cause a number of negative symptoms as well. Building a team is about more than just building friendships. Close relationships within a team can be valuable, but they should not be the focus.
