Why should we replace the 70-year old downtown fire station? ⢠The old fire station was built in 1943. It has serious electrical, structural, plumbing, space and safety problems. It is beyond affordable renovation, it cannot be expanded, it has simply outlived its purpose and âÂÂlifeâÂÂ. ⢠Adequate in 1943, the building simply cannot meet the safety and protection mission of todayâÂÂs fire department. ⢠The State will pay about $5 million toward the project. The community cannot afford to miss this opportunity.
