I believe that one of the most common obstacles for Italians is the fear of making mistakes when speaking English: The famous "brutta figura" or "bad impression". I hear that. It was the same for me when I began learning Italian. If you haven't already noticed, my Italian isn't perfect. But I never let that stop me from enjoying myself by chatting with my wonderful Italian friends and meeting new people. Believe me, I've made tons of embarrassing mistakes along the way, but I eventually learned to laugh at myself and appreciate that making errors is an important part of the learning process. For example, years ago I used to confuse the words "cornetto" and "cornuto". These two words were very similar. One day I walked into a bar and ordered a "caffé" and a "cornuto", (in English, a coffee and a "betrayed husband") I couldn't understand why everyone in the bar was laughing until the barman explained. I was absolutely mortified. And then even I started to laugh. I'll never forget it. But in the end, I survived! And so will you. So whenever you think you've made an embarrassing mistake in English, get over it! It's natural! That's all for now. See you next time!
