The International Tropical Timber Council has announced a 16.8 million US dollar funding programme aimed at the conservation and sustainable management, use and trade of tropical forest resources.
The money will support the implementation of 13 projects and one pre-project, which will include money to support community forest management in Brazil's Amazonas State and to promote integrated forest fire management in Central America.
The funding announcement came at the end of the Forty-sixth Session of the Council, which is the governing body of the International Tropical Timber Organisation.
