Vanessa Zamora sat down with Rich Skrenta, chief executive and founder of newly released search engine blekko. Skrenta revealed that what sets the Blekko search engine apart from its competitors are slash tags that allow users to drill down into more specific categories, as well as its transparent backend. Skrenta said that blekko provides marketers with information about their company's website, including crawl and ranking data, making it easier to figure out how to rank well in the search engine listings. From a search standpoint, Blekko has already established seven categories in topics such as health and personal finance to provide the highest quality results without the spam, and Skrenta said the future looks bright for the search engine as it continues to strive for its goal to curate the Web one category at a time. According to Skrenta, Blekko has seen return visitors unlike other search engines that have attempted, yet failed to gain traction in the past.
