This week the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) announced an "historic" change in the strategy behind domain name registration. They've agreed to sell a variety of new generic top-level domains (gTLD) that will allow companies to buy their name or industry. As an example, instead of apple.com they could buy ipad.apple.
