Bastrop County fire victims congregated at the Bastrop Convention Center to receive aid, get comfort from other fire victims and those more fortunate and to find out news of the huge fire raging in their midst. County Judge Ronald McDonald gave a press conference to a mildly rowdy crowd hungry for information and news crews took over a huge section of the parking lot. I was lucky that the fire narrowly missed my two homes on 15 acres in Cedar Creek and I'm doing what I can to help others find housing and to provide them with solace. It's part of the healing process that those more fortunate focus on helping those who didn't fare so well. 1,300 homes have been destroyed and over 5,000 people have been evacuated from their homes in Bastrop County.
