William Christie is a renowned advocate of Baroque opera. For the Glyndebourne Festival 2009 he is conducting The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment for a new production of Henry Purcell's Masque, The Fairy Queen. The opera, which was first staged in 1692 is based on Shakespeare's A Midsummer Nights Dream. The 2009 production is a combination of spoken word, music, dance and spectacular costume and set changes.
