John Harding and Erik Kauppi, founded their electric scooter company, Current Motor, in a garage after leaving jobs at Ford Motor Co. They found angel investors and teamed up with Dell to build a cool-looking scooter with a data-collecting dashboard.
At South by Southwestâs Interactive conference they promoted their scooter by raffling one off in the Startup America area of SXSW.
The Ann Arbor-based company is now shipping scooters that can go 65 miles an hour, travel 50 miles on a single charge and be plugged into any household outlet. They call it a 400-pound "super scooter" because it can handle a daily commute to work. The base price is $9,995.
