High in the Andes mountains in Ecuador is the Tungurahua (the âthroat of fireâ) Volcano, towering 16,480 feet (5,023 meters), or 3.12 miles above sea level. In American terms, it is more than three times as high as Denver, Colorado. Higher than nine One World Trade Centers stacked on top of each other. Baños (Ban-yoess)is five miles north and two miles lower in altitude.
Baños is known for its thermal springs, adventure sports and post-sport massages, along with a fairly crazy Old Year to New Year celebration.
Deep gorges cut by glaciers and rivers create a perfect place to run steel cables across the Puntzan Valley. Canopy Puntzan has the best zipline course, with six runs totaling 2,000 meters (1.25 miles), with the longest run at over 700 meters. The videos don't really capture the height and openness of the "flying."
