AUSTIN, TEXAS. July 2014 - The Mahogany Project proudly presents Volume 2: THE BODY ISSUE, a theatrical stage performance about the experiences of Black Queer Men in Central Texas. The show promotes fellowship, awareness, and engaging our brilliant guests with conversations about the issues surrounding black queer men and supporting community in Austin. Poetry, Prose, and Performance... Expect that and more when you wwatch The Mahogany Project bring its controversial and current take on the perspectives of Black Queer Men to the Dougherty Arts Center Theatre. They've previously served up works like Cake which is a cautionary innuendo about the male form as it relates to sexual preferences and self preservation, Legendary, a take on the ballroom scene and its existence in gay culture, and ABC's which dived into relationships and their dissolution. The Mahogany Project's mission is to inspire a new generation of social activists and to invigorate members of the black gay community to take action in order to begin the healing process for those who have fallen victim to the hurt, fear, anxiety, and distrust experienced by many of its constituents. Please forward this information to any Black same-gender loving, gay, bisexual, progressive and queer men that you know. We are highly interested in collaborating with queer men of color and supporting organizations for this performance. If you have or know someone who has a contribution or suggestion, now is the time to get involved. In addition, if anyone would like to request a performance or speaking engagement, please contact us. Questions should be directed to projectmahogany@gmail.com.
