Breathtakingly remote, the Three Parallel Rivers National Park is another haven for intrepid hikers. This is where three of the world's great rivers converge and flow side by side: the Yangtze, Mekong (Southeast Asia's main river) and Salween (Myanmar's second largest river). Each flows into an ocean thousands of miles apart. It's a dramatic and undiscovered destination, with most hikes requiring at least a week. Accommodation is in a mix of traditional Tibetan teahouses and camping, with the path crisscrossing across a series of rugged peaks. Hikes can be organized through tour companies in Lijiang and Shangri-la.
