Allan C. Carlson Lectures at UT MartinMARTIN - Family scholar Allan C. Carlson will present “Third Ways: Rebuilding an American Economy Focused on the Family and Community,” March 24, at the University of Tennessee at Martin. The lecture is scheduled at 7 p.m. in Watkins Auditorium of Boling University Center. Third way measures include a return to the natural arrangements of family, church and local community. In contrast to corporate globalization, Carlson will emphasize the importance revitalizing the family farm, the family-held business and the independent shop. Carlson’s lecture will address questions such as: Does conservatism invariably mean defending the actions of the great banks and corporations? Is agrarianism a ridiculous anachronism in the 21st century? Is it conservative to wage perpetual war for perpetual peace? Carlson is president of the Howard Center for Family, Religion & Society. His books include “The Natural Family: A Manifesto” and “The ‘American Way’: Family and Community in the Shaping of the American Identity.” The Intercollegiate Studies Institute and its UT Martin chapter student organization will sponsor the lecture. --- I apologize for the poor sound quality.
