Sujoy Ghosh's Epic Thriller 'Ahalya' In the Ramayan, Ahalya is cursed by her husband, sage Gautama and turned into stone when Lord Indra disguises himself as her husband and seduces her. The message of this re telling is that she was not to be punished for her "infidelity" in the first place. The point here is that Lord Indra (in the form of the inspector here) was the only person deserving of punishment, absolving the historic Ahalya of her "sin" and restoring her innocence. The director concludes by instead turning Indra to stone.
