APEC ‘the group’ doesn’t upset me personally, but our local government’s efforts to curb our right to free speech got up my nose a bit This includes buying a water cannon truck that didn’t get used, and probably wont ever (this is Australia for petes sake.) Bit of a laugh when the demo reached the park, and I saw a long line of protestors trailing back from the back of an Espresso truck. The govt don’t need no Pepper spray to stop a protest action over here. What they need is a high mobility beer tent It's amazing how many cameras were being lugged around. Any bit of action that ‘went down’ was captured from multiple angles.

This piece is a compilation of two trips I’ve taken with research missions. The Oceania project August of 07 is studying the transitory Humpback whale population in Hervey bay, Queensland, Australia. Having spent the winter in the Great Barrier reef, giving birth to their calves, they journey down the coast of Australia returning to the Antarctic for the summer. The vessel was the Moon Dancer, and a small group of us had paid to volunteer to help with the research undertaken by Trish and Wally Franklin PhD. Spanish dolphin EarthWatch expedition: Sept 06. The mission started in 1992, after the Toftevaag had been restored and refitted The first project was the study of a mass die-off of the striped dolphin off the coast of Spain. Recently they have focused on monitoring of cetacean populations that have been suffering a regression in the Mediterranean over the last few decades. The research site chosen is the Alboran Sea, the transition zone between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.

Last week the Pope visited Syn city, and bought a few mates along.

Back with the Darling Harbour Jazz and Blues festival in Sydney. The Jim Pennell Trio playing in the Chinese gardens that are tucked away in a corner of Darling Harbour.

Back in the Nineties, I was a bit of an Acid Jazz freak. Dig was one of my favourite local groups. Recently they played at the Darling Harbour Jazz and Blues festival in Sydney. This is a video of them performing Dreamtime. I remember this song being a lot more 'pumped' ;-)

A video of bugs shot mostly in Australia with macro. I've been collecting these little clips of insects for a while now. Suddenly had enough to string together into a short video with a bit of music to keep the pace up. Mostly glitch with a bit of Hiphop (all done with Acid.) Featured are a lady bug, a Weta from New Zealand, two beetles (one green and the other iridescent,) and my finger.

A video taken of a storm that passed overhead and headed out to sea last Tuesday 26th. Bit of live video, bit of time-lapse. Lot’s of lightning. More sensitive viewers will appreciate my editing efforts. While I was cutting up the footage, I discovered that at one point I heard my voice exclaim ‘fuck that was close!’ on the soundtrack, so I cut the sound and overlaid thunder.

It’s not just about the seals. Kaidoura is also home to a bird nesting site. Lots of noisy seagulls and I took this video of some geese that walked past me while I was looking at the seals.

While I was staying in Kaikoura, I spent a bit of time down at the seal colonies. Last of the seal videos and I’m struck by how much seals reminded me of dogs.

Dan Kelly sings on Australia day 'Babysitters of the world unite.' Last year I had a clip taken of the Whitlam’s, this year it’s Dan Kelly. Lots of shot’s of Australians sprinkled throughout, and some sky divers.

Experience the colour movement and sounds of the Oz Day Car Show (wish I could bring you the smells too.) This year I got down to the annual antique car show and shot a bit of video, and made an effort not to get sunburnt.

This is some footage taken aboard the TranzCoastal train which travels up the East coast of the South Island of New Zealand. At the rear there is an open carriage and this is where I took this footage. Overlaid some music just to keep things lively.

Starting in front of Bondi Surf Club, runs out from Bondi, around McKenzies point and down the coast into Bronte Beach. A distance of 2.2 - 2.5km (depending on the positioning of the buoy off McKenzies point).

This event was held on Sunday off Sydney’s Eastern beaches. The course drawn between the first two Surf Life Saving clubs in the world. Starting in front of Bondi Surf Club, runs out from Bondi, around McKenzies point and down the coast into Bronte Beach. A final event was the Dash for Cash, where a group of boys, and a group of girls got to race each other out to a marker buoy, and back to the beach. First through the gate wins five hundred bucks.

Montage type photo cut ups of the Danks street festival that was held a few weeks back. The Danks Street festival is held a district that attracts artists and galleries. The music is a performance by the local band The Super Heavy Weights.

Walk Against Warming 07 Our country elects a new government in a week’s time, so the local enviro groups organised a ‘Walk Against Warming’ march through the city streets. The band is Watusi who played to entertain the folks who walked. The music is South American inspired. About twenty thousand people turned up, which is pretty poor considering the number of bodies living in Sydney.

More on the Surry Hills Fest. I like these community festivals cause all sorts of folks can be found wandering between the stalls. Lots of dogs and kids about too. This video is of the dog show, the seems to be traditional at these events.
